Chromecasting for Android How To's, Supported Models, and Troubleshooting 

Are all Chromecasts supported?

It must be certified and not a 3rd party casting software.

How do I cast from my Android to my Chromecast?

You can cast from your supported Android device to your external Chromecast by doing the following:

  • Go to your supported Android devices home screen.

  • Go to the Google Play store on your Android device.

  • Search for the Pure Flix app.

  • Click on the Great American Pure Flix

  • Click on Install

  • Go back to the Play Store to download the Google Home app

  • Search Google Home

  • Select the Google Home app

  • Click on Install

  • Once you have completed the download, verify that both the Android device and the Chromecast are connected to the same WiFi.

  • Open the Great American Pure Flix app

  • Click on the Chromecast icon in the upper right of the screen

  • Then select your Chromecast device

  • Select a title and tap play to start casting

How do I resolve the issues on casting to my Android device?

If you are experiencing an issue with casting to your Android device please try resolving the issue with the following steps:

Step 1: Test Your Internet Connection

(Note: If your internet speed is below 0.5mbps, please contact your internet provider in regards to your internet speed)

Step 2: Force Stop the Great American Pure Flix App

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to Settings on your device
  • Click on Applications located on the left
  • Scroll down to the Great American Pure Flix app
  • Click on the Great American Pure Flix app.
  • Select Force Stop

Step 3: Clear the Great American Pure Flix App Cache

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to Settings on your device
  • Click on Applications located on the left
  • Scroll down to Great American Pure Flix
  • Click on Great American Pure Flix
  • Select Storage
  • Click on the Clear Cache option.

Step 4: Delete the Great American Pure Flix App

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to Settings on your device
  • Go to Applications located on the left
  • Scroll down to the Great American Pure Flix
  • Click on Great American Pure Flix
  • Click Uninstall

Step 5: Reinstall the Great American Pure Flix App

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to your app store
  • Search Pure Flix
  • Click on the Great American Pure Flix
  • Click on Install

Once the download is complete, open and sign into Great American Pure Flix. If you are still experiencing issues continue on to the next steps.

Step 6: Delete and Reinstall the Google Home App

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to Settings on your device
  • Go to Applications located on the left
  • Go to Google Home
  • Select Google Home
  • Click Uninstall

After the uninstallation is complete do the following

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to your App store
  • Search Google Home
  • Click on the Google Home app
  • Click on Install

Once the download is complete, open and sign into Great American Pure Flix. If you are still experiencing issues continue on to the next steps.

Step 7: Check for Available Updates

  • Go to the home screen on your device
  • Go to Settings on your device
  • Go to About phone/tablet
  • Click on System Updates

Step 8: Check the Firmware Version of your Chromecast

  • Open the Google Home app
  • Touch and hold your device's tile
  • Tap Settings
  • Under Technical information, check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX."
Note - the easiest way to find this is by looking on the back of your Chromecast device where it says Model (EX: RUX-J42)

Step 9: Reboot the Device

  • Turn off your casting device
  • Wait for 1 full minute
  • Turn it back on

Note: Please be certain your device is fully powered off for at least 60 seconds, following onscreen prompts if needed.

How to turn closed captions on/off
  • Play title
  • Select the square to the left of the heart in upper right side of the screen
  • Select English

  • Then select the to exit the closed caption menu
